Carlsberg Group commits to UN Women’s Empowerment Principles on women’s empowerment and gender equity

Carlsberg Group CEO Cees ‘t Hart signs the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles, committing to women’s empowerment and gender equity.

In celebration of International Women’s Day 2023, Carlsberg Group has signed the guiding principles on women’s empowerment and gender equity, further cementing the company’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion commitment.

Carlsberg Group CEO Cees ’t Hart says: “Brewing is a historically male-dominated industry, and as a modern global company, we know that we have a significant responsibility to advance our commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment at Carlsberg. Not only because this is integral to Carlsberg’s purpose of brewing for a better today and tomorrow, but also because we know that actions that advance gender equity and empower women lead to a better business performance.”

DE&I is a global priority for the company under its Together Towards ZERO and Beyond programme and is embedded in its SAIL’27 strategy and owned by leadership. A key driver within this strategy is a commitment to women’s empowerment and gender equity.

Carlsberg Group CHRO Joris Huijsmans says: “We acknowledge that there is a lot of work still to be done to reach our diversity and inclusion ambitions – but we know that getting the gender balance right is our first, foundational step. This year we will recruit more diverse talent and focus on embedding inclusion and equity initiatives across the organisation. Ultimately, we pride ourselves on being Purpose-led and Performance driven in everything we do – and our commitment to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion is our way of assuring we nurture the kind of culture that will deliver results and support our purpose.”

The company has shared its commitment to gender equity and women’s empowerment by instilling measurable targets to assure that women are equally represented in senior leadership levels. In line with its commitments to all human rights conventions as signatory of the UN Global Compact, we are committed to its 10 principles, including those on women’s empowerment and inclusion.
