Putting water on tab in Cambodia

Our local Cambodian brewery, Cambrew, has teamed up with the social enterprise TapEffect to bring safe drinking water to thousands residents.

The partnership addresses the challenge of water scarcity and water access in rural Cambodia, and works towards our targets of replenishing all water consumed at our breweries in areas of high water risk.

TapEffect is working with communities in a remote rural area of Pursat province to establish a new water supply and associated infrastructure that will provide 6,800 people with access to potable water straight from the tap in homes, schools, referral hospitals and businesses. The project includes over 50 km of pipework, a pumping system, new reservoir, treatment plant and clean storage facility.

By 2025, the project is expected to deliver 7 million litres of water per month, yielding around 25% of the water needed to replenish consumption at our brewery in Sihanoukville. The system is expected to operate for more than 20 years.

In 2024, we continued to expand the project to cover more residents. To date, 1,025 households, five schools, a healthcare center, a police station, and a community center have been connected to TapEffect’s tap water network, resulting in more than 39,000 m3 of water that is now provided to the local community.
