Mead has a long and proud history with brewing traditions dating all the way back to the beginning of civilisation. Mead received immense popularity, which continued through the Middle Ages where there was an abundance of this bereave in Royal courts, palaces of noblemen and masteries.

Mead was also produced at the Saku brewery in the 1820s and 1830s and the the recipe for Saku Mõdu was developed on the basis of historic recipe as well as elements from different authentic Estonian mead recipes. The result: a traditional fermented drink with a task of honey and a 4% ABV.
