Developed in collaboration with DS Smith, the multipack design has rounded corners that help to avoid damage. It is also fully recyclable. Carlsberg Poland is trialling the rounded wrap packaging for its Carlsberg, Garage, and Somersby beer product ranges.
During initial tests, the rounded corner design reduced empty space in the box by 4.2% and makes the box almost 17% lighter compared to one with 90-degree corners. This design shift is expected to save up to 224 tons of CO2 annually for Carlsberg in Poland.
Our cans are getting lighter and so is their environmental footprint. Over the last three years, we have worked with Ball to cut the weight of our most common can formats by around 5% in more than ten European markets. This lightweighting is shrinking our value chain carbon footprint by around 5,000 tonnes per year.
Taking responsibility for what happens with bottles and cans after consumers enjoy a beverage is part of our work to achieve ZERO Packaging Waste. Deposit return schemes are a proven way to encourage consumers to recycle bottles.
