Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DE&I)

At Carlsberg, we recognize the broad diversity of people, we aim for equitable structures & opportunities, and we create an inclusive culture, and together, empower everyone to be their authentic selves.

Our Global Priority

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion is a global priority in our Together Towards ZERO and Beyond programme. It is embedded in our SAIL’27 business strategy and covers Carlsberg’s entire value chain.

Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

At Carlsberg, diversity, equity and inclusion are fundamental - rooted in our values, history, and ways of working. Our founders believed in equal opportunities for us and the society around us. Inclusion is part of our Growth Culture that enables us to reach our business strategy. We know that diverse organisations perform better, attract skilled people, and enhance more innovation. We’re committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace because it’s essential for long-term sustainable success.

With so many iconic brands, we know our differences are what make us stand out. And while we are different, we are unified by our shared Purpose: be a catalyst for good, dedicated to brewing for a better today and tomorrow.

With diversity, we aim to acknowledge everyone as they are. Through equity, we aim to ensure that everyone has equal access to opportunities by addressing systemic barriers and providing the essential support needed to thrive, recognizing that each person's starting point is different and requires tailored resources. With inclusion we aim to create a culture where everyone is welcomed, respected, and valued, creating an environment where all employees can thrive, be their authentic self and contribute.

We recognize that diversity, equity and inclusion cannot follow a universal approach, as country history, culture, laws, and diversity groups must be considered. Instead, we operate within a global framework that is adaptable to regional and country-specific needs while remaining anchored in our growth culture principles. To create meaningful local impact, each country has its own diversity, equity and inclusion roadmap, clearly outlining global targets and local initiatives.

We are committed to building a workplace where diversity is celebrated, equity is embedded in everything we do, and inclusion is at the heart of our culture. By applying diversity, equity, and inclusion principles, we empower our people, strengthen our teams, and enhance innovation, making Carlsberg better today and tomorrow.

Our Commitment to gender equity

We are committed to gender equality and have integrated gender equality and women’s empowerment into our business strategy. Brewing is an historically male-dominated industry, and we feel a significant responsibility to advance our commitment to gender equity and women’s empowerment at Carlsberg.

We believe that getting the gender balance right will pave the way for more diverse representation, and we set time-bound targets for the share of women in senior leadership roles.

Our target is to reach a share of 40% women in senior leadership roles overall by the end of 2030.

How we are building Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion:

- Inclusive leadership: Our people leaders receive dedicated training in ‘Unconscious Bias’ and ‘Leading Inclusively’ to help nurture an inclusive culture and a global mindset.

- Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Council: Since 2020, eight senior leaders representing our three regions have guided our DEI strategy. This council oversees initiatives across the entire value chain.

- Global Employee Resource Groups (ERGs): Voluntary, employee-driven groups come together to create a more inclusive workplace, expanding both professional and social networks and supporting personal development.

- DEI Research and Data Guidebook: We conduct in-depth research to analyze people data, societal norms, cultural practices, and legal frameworks across our markets. The resulting insights drive our Data Guidebook, which helps convert data into actionable strategies for local DEI initiatives.

- Local DEI Roadmaps: Each market’s roadmap is a strategic resource that clearly defines goals, measures progress, and allocates resources to ensure initiatives are goal-oriented, measurable, and aligned with our overall DEI strategy.

- DE&I Talent Sessions: These sessions provide an overview of our diverse talent landscape and focus on key areas to support our journey toward a global target of 40% female representation by 2030.

- Global DEI Wheel: This initiative highlights and drives global activities—such as Lunar New Year celebrations, International Women’s/Men’s Day, and World Day of Diversity—to foster awareness and action.

- Global Framework on Key Dimensions: Our diversity dimensions are built around five dimensions: Gender Equity, Culture, Ethnicity and Nationality, Age & Life Stages, and LGBT+ & Allies and Ability variations. Each member of our Executive Committee champions one dimension to ensure these priorities are promoted across the organization.

- Embedding DE&I in Our HR Practices: We aim to integrate diversity, equity, and inclusion into every stage of the employee lifecycle, ensuring that our recruitment, development, and retention practices are free from bias and fully aligned with our values.

We are committed to the UN Women's Empowerment Principles and we undertake regular gender equality self-assessments, including those on equal pay for equal work, and our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion maturity assessment.

Our Code of Conduct, Human Rights Policy and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Policy reinforce our stance on gender equity and equality of opportunity. They provide clear guidance for all employees on our zero-tolerance approach to any form of harassment or discrimination, including gender-based harassment and sexual harassment.  In 2023 we introduced mandatory Preventing Sexual Harassment training for all employees globally to reinforce our commitment to a safe and inclusive workplace for all.

We encourage any employee who is concerned that our policies may have been breached to raise their concerns with their manager or their compliance or HR representative – or anonymously via our independent third-party SpeakUp platform.
