Zero emission deliveries with Switzerland’s largest electric truck fleet

The Feldschlösschen brewery, Switzerland, is now delivering to customers in the country through a fleet of 20 new 26-tonne electric trucks – the world’s first mass-produced electric trucks from Renault Trucks.

This is the latest step towards achieving our science-based targets to cut emissions across the value chain, as part of Carlsberg Group’s sustainability programme Together Towards ZERO.

The trucks, which have a payload of 13.8 tonnes and a range of 200km, will deliver to customers from across 12 logistics sites. Over time the entire truck fleet at Feldschlösschen will be converted to electric.

They are powered with renewable energy, and already there are five photovoltaic systems to provide solar power to charge the trucks.

“We’re committed to cutting carbon at every stage, including logistics, which globally accounts for around 12% of the footprint of a beer. We’ve been pioneering the use of smaller electric trucks for beer delivery in Switzerland since 2008. Our new addition to the fleet will help to deliver larger quantities of beer with even lower emissions,” says Victor Shevtsov, EVP Supply Chain, Carlsberg Group

Thomas Amstutz, CEO, Feldschlösschen, added: “The electric trucks have been well received by customers and employees alike. In the last five years we’ve cut carbon emissions across the business by 23%.”

The team at Feldschlösschen are working to reduce emissions at every step, using rail to transport 60% of goods from production to distribution centres and major customers. This way we can provide the most sustainable products to our customers in the most sustainable way.
